Month: September 2026

Dubai , September 8, 2026 : The United Arab Emirates has achieved remarkable progress in the Programme for International Student Assessment, PISA 2025, an international evaluation of key subjects, overseen by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The UAE ranked first among the Arab countries participating in PISA 2025 in the fields of science, mathematics and reading.

Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of Education, affirmed that this achievement is attributable to the collective efforts of the UAE’s educational institutions, staff and teachers to strengthen students’ skills in reading, science and mathematics and prepare them for the future. She also highlighted students’ ambition and determination to excel as key drivers of this global achievement.

Al Amiri noted that the results align with the UAE’s pioneering vision for AI and digital education, as well as showing the efficacy of advancements in the digital readiness of schools and the responsible use of technology and AI. She reaffirmed the UAE’s leadership in AI education and the continued development of education as a cornerstone of sustainable development.

Overall improvement in student performance

UAE students improved across all three PISA areas: science by 26 points to 458, mathematics by 21 to 453, and reading by 15 to 433. Notably, amid an overall decline internationally, the UAE was one of just eight of 91 participating countries and economies to improve in all three areas. The improvement was recorded across science, mathematics and reading, compared to PISA 2022 results when the average performance of the OECD countries witnessed a decline in the same fields.

The UAE’s progress also included fewer low-performing students and more reaching advanced performance levels. This improvement demonstrates the education system’s capacity to drive broad-based student achievement and sustain progress despite growing international challenges.

Advanced level of digital readiness for schools

The UAE’s leading position among the Arab countries participating in PISA 2025 in the fields of science, mathematics and reading reflects the impact of ongoing national efforts to strengthen the country’s education ecosystem. These efforts span curriculum development, improving teaching quality, empowering educational cadres and advancing assessment policies and the national assessments system. Together, they enhance assessment quality and reliability while reinforcing evidence- and data-based educational decision-making.

PISA 2025 highlighted the UAE’s strong digital readiness and emphasis on the responsible use of technology and AI. Some 81.7% of students noted that they learned to evaluate AI-generated information in class, well above the OECD average of 62.6%.

Additionally, 96.3% of UAE students attend schools with subject-specific guidelines for digital device use, compared with 71.2% across the OECD. This reflects the UAE’s vision of a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy and the Ministry of Education’s efforts to integrate AI into curriculum, empowering students to use AI responsibly, think critically and assess digital information.

At emirate level, Dubai ranked highest across all three fields, scoring 506 in science, 496 in mathematics and 484 in reading; 48, 43 and 51 points above the national averages respectively. Dubai students also outperformed the OECD average by 24 points in science, 33 in mathematics and 23 in reading. This strong performance highlights the emirate’s progress in education and offers an opportunity to replicate effective practices more broadly, supporting higher achievement and narrower gaps across the UAE.

Continuously updating school curricula

Approximately 34,639 students from 1,070 schools across the UAE took part in the assessment, reflecting the broad scope of participation and the integration of efforts among the various stakeholders in the nation’s education system.

This achievement comes as a direct result of the integrated roles of educational entities, schools, educational leaders, teachers, students and parents, which has contributed to entrenching a culture of collaboration to enable continuous improvement. It also underscores the importance of stronger partnerships between school, family and community, and of developing more flexible, responsive learning environments that address students’ needs and future aspirations.

The results further demonstrate the impact of continuously updating curricula to align with future skills and global best practices in education. Moreover, they underscore the vital importance of investment in the professional development of teachers and school leaders and the enhanced use of international assessment results in developing educational policies and practices to elevate the quality of educational outcomes.

PISA is among the foremost international studies measuring 15-year-old students’ ability to apply their knowledge and skills to address real-world situations and evolving challenges, providing important indicators on the efficiency of education systems and the extent of students’ readiness for the future.

millions of Dubai residents and visitors every day, ensuring sustained
visibility, enhancing brand awareness through the display of the company’s
name on maps, station signage, onboard audio announcements, smart
applications, navigation systems and directional signage; strengthening
credibility and trust through association with one of the world’s most
efficient and advanced transport systems; generating long-term marketing
returns that surpass those of conventional advertising campaigns through
continuity and repeated daily exposure; reinforcing presence in the UAE
and regional markets among a diverse audience of residents, tourists and
businesspeople; and creating opportunities for integrated marketing by
linking naming rights to promotional campaigns, interactive experiences
and community initiatives.

the onboard audio announcements will be updated before and upon arrival
at the station.

the mentioned platforms. During the mentioned period, passengers may
approach RTA’s teams at the stations for assistance or further enquiries.

At its annual Traders Meet in Dubai, Milano by Danube outlines its Global Direct strategy, showcases key products and creates new business opportunities for its dealer network

Dubai , September 7, 2026: Milano by Danube brought together more than 500 traders and business partners from across Dubai and the UAE at its annual Traders Meet at Ritz-Carlton DIFC, as the company addressed the growing impact of geopolitical tensions and global supply-chain disruptions on international trade.
The gathering came at a time when businesses across the UAE are navigating rising freight costs, evolving shipping routes and uncertainty around the international movement of goods. Against this backdrop, the event focused on Milano by Danube’s evolving sourcing and supply-chain strategy, with discussions around how the company is working to create greater flexibility, efficiency and resilience while continuing to support its extensive dealer network across the UAE.

From Global Disruption to Supply-Chain Resilience
The current geopolitical environment has highlighted how quickly disruptions in one part of the world can affect businesses and consumers elsewhere. For companies dependent on international sourcing, longer shipping routes, freight volatility and uncertainty around delivery timelines have made supply-chain resilience increasingly important.

Anis Sajan, Vice Chairman, Danube Group, said, “The biggest lesson from the current global situation is that supply chains cannot be treated as a back-end function anymore. They have become a strategic part of the business. When shipping routes change or costs increase overnight, you need the flexibility to respond. This is why we have been looking closely at our global sourcing and building a more direct model.”

He added, “Milano was born in the UAE, and Dubai has been at the heart of our journey and has been an important market for us since inception. Our traders have played a significant role in building the brand and taking it closer to consumers and more than 500 of our traders and business partners with us at this event is a strong reflection of the relationships we have built.”
Despite the challenging environment, Milano by Danube continued to invest in the UAE, opening two new locations during this period. The brand launched a showroom in Deira focused on its export traders, while also opening its first-ever experiential centre in Maleha, Sharjah, designed to offer customers a more immersive experience of Milano’s diverse product portfolio. These investments reflect the brand’s confidence in the UAE market and its commitment to building for long-term growth, even during periods of uncertainty.

Further adding to the ongoing challenges, Sahil Sajan, Director, Milano by Danube, highlighted, “Despite the challenges we faced, including freight rates increasing nearly tenfold from USD 1,000 to USD 10,000, we never stopped our imports or compromised on our commitment to. While several players chose to scale down, we continued to invest, maintain supply and support our customers, allowing us to capitalize on the additional market share that became available. We have always believed that every challenge brings an opportunity. Just as we did during COVID, we chose to adapt and act decisively. As a result, instead of slowing down, Milano grew by 20% in this period.”
Showcasing Products and Creating Greater Value

The Traders Meet also provided an opportunity for Milano by Danube to showcase key products ranging from water heaters, sanitary, electrical, and hardware from its portfolio, allowing traders to engage with the brand’s offerings and gain a closer understanding of products suited to the UAE market. The idea is to bring all our valued clients together under one roof, while offering them exclusive and attractive deals as a gesture of our appreciation and loyalty towards their continued support.
Global Direct: Rethinking the Sourcing Journey

Milano by Danube responded to the situation by evolving its sourcing model and strengthening direct procurement from key international markets. Through its “Global Direct” strategy, the company is working to establish more streamlined sourcing routes, strengthen relationships with global manufacturers and respond more effectively to changing market requirements.

Sahil Sajan, Director, Milano by Danube, said, “At Milano, we are looking at the entire sourcing journey that is from the manufacturer to the market and asking how we can make it more efficient. Global Direct is about creating that closer connection with the source while giving us greater agility in the markets we serve. Our traders are the closest to the market, so their feedback is extremely important to us. The Traders Meet gives us the opportunity to hear directly from them, understand the opportunities and challenges they are experiencing and align our plans accordingly.”

Strengthening Milano’s UAE Network
The participation of more than 500 traders and business partners underscored the scale of Milano’s presence in the market and its continued focus on building long-term partnerships. As global trade continues to face uncertainty, Milano by Danube is positioning global sourcing, supply-chain agility and strong trader partnerships as key pillars of its next phase of growth.

The initiative aims to support students from the most vulnerable and underprivileged groups across the UAE as the new academic year begins, enabling them to continue their educational journeys with the digital tools they need for learning.

The initiative forms part of the “Giving and Hope” Back-to-School Campaign, supporting students from low-income families, orphans and other vulnerable groups as they begin the new academic year with confidence. By providing refurbished digital devices, it helps ensure they have the tools they need to continue their education and benefit from digital learning opportunities.

The Digital School is providing more than 1,500 refurbished digital devices, including 48 laptops, and 1,085 tablets, enhancing access to essential digital learning tools for students supported by Tarahum Charity Foundation.

The devices were collected from various institutions and organisations across the UAE as part of the Digital School’s “Donate Your Device” initiative. They subsequently underwent specialised refurbishment and reconditioning processes in accordance with technical standards, transforming used devices into educational tools that open new horizons for learning and giving technology a new lease of life in support of students.

Khalid Al Qasim, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tarahum Charity Foundation, said, “We are proud of our partnership with the Digital School, which highlights the importance of coordinated community efforts in supporting students and advancing initiatives that make a positive impact on the lives of beneficiaries. Providing refurbished digital devices to students from beneficiary families will help them begin the new academic year with confidence and continue their educational journeys. It also reflects the values of giving, solidarity and social responsibility that characterise UAE society.”

Dr. Waleed Al Ali, Secretary-General of the Digital School, said, “The ‘Donate Your Device’ initiative reflects the Digital School’s commitment to expanding its educational impact, not only globally but also within the UAE, through effective community partnerships that support students and empower them to continue their education. The Digital School launched the “Donate Your Device” campaign to engage individuals and institutions across the community in providing digital learning tools to students in underserved communities. The campaign collects used electronic devices, refurbishes those suitable for reuse and makes them available to support students’ education, while other devices are recycled in accordance with appropriate environmental practices.

The campaign’s second edition is being organised in partnership with the Digital School, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority (ERC) and Ecyclex, with the support of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. It aims to collect 100,000 used electronic devices, strengthening the integration of educational, humanitarian and environmental sustainability impacts.

The campaign’s first edition, launched in 2023 as part of the UAE’s Year of Sustainability activities, successfully collected 50,000 electronic devices and recycled 120 tonnes of electronic waste. It also generated significant environmental benefits, including reducing carbon dioxide emissions by the equivalent of 122 tonnes, saving 170,000 litres of fuel, and protecting approximately 32,000 square feet of land from pollution caused by electronic waste.

The Digital School, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, in November 2020 as part of the dissemination of education and knowledge pillar, aims to empower students through digital learning options in areas and regions where suitable conditions or the resources required to continue their education are unavailable. The Authority maintains a 95 percent “excellent” rating across its network through scheduled assessments and targeted upkeep.

Under its 2026 preventive plan, RTA rehabilitated 17 kilometers of asphalt across nine major streets and six districts by early June, spanning highways, arterial corridors, residential areas, and cycling tracks. Pavement maintenance targets 90,000 square meters this year, up from 88,000 square meters in 2025.

Maintenance priorities are determined using automated asset-data analysis, smart diagnostic systems, field inspections, customer reports, and traffic volume metrics. Dedicated traffic management plans, including diversions and safety measures, are implemented before work begins, ensuring all lanes reopen prior to the morning peak.

Off-peak operations have accelerated infrastructure upgrades while enhancing safety and preserving overall network efficiency.
